On Tuesday, the Narendra Modi-led government agreed to make nine amendments to the controversial Land Acquisition Bill as it sought to garner support from an Opposition which has opposed it as being “anti-farmer.”

Following this move, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh, a key architect of the Land Acquisition Act enacted by the previous United Progressive Alliance government, has circulated tabulated notes of his opposition to the suggested amendments.

Furthermore, in the past, Ramesh, a former rural development minister, contested Bharatiya Janata Party’s stand that the Land Acquisition Law enacted during the Congress-led UPA rule was not farmer-friendly.
