Three persons were killed and three others injured when protestors clashed with security forces in south Kashmir's Anantnag town, which falls on the Amarnath pilgrimage route.
According to a senior police official, mobs indulged in heavy stone pelting on the police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force in the afternoon.
The security forces responded by firing teargas shells and resorted to repeated baton charges, but the mob refused to back down.
The security forces then opened fire, killing two youth identified as Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khanday, 20, and Imtiyaz Ahmad, 23.
Three critically wounded youth were initially shifted to the local district hospital and then rushed to Srinagar.

Tension has gripped Anantnag and authorities have moved in fresh reinforcements to beef up the security force.
Tuesday's violent protests led to the closure of the Jammu Amarnath cave shrine route. The annual yatra to the cave shrine in the Himalayas is scheduled to begin on July 1.
