Was the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi right or wrong when he said that India needed toilets first and temples later? The answer to that, it seems, depends on which side of the ideological fence you are on. The Congress has predictably trashed his statement, while the BJP, which had earlier criticised Jairam Ramesh for a similar iteration, feels Modi was right in saying what he did.

To get a feel of what the man on the street feels about Modi’s assertion, Hitesh Harisinghani spoke to some of the people using a pay-and-use toilet in Mumbai, and this is what they had to say.
