A rare celestial event -- transit of Venus across the face of the sun, the first in 122 years -- will take place on Tuesday.

The event will take place between 1046 IST and 1651 IST, according to Nehru Planetarium Director Piyush Pande.

Stargazers have been warned not to witness Venus transiting "the passage of a smaller celestial body or its shadow across the disk of a larger celestial body, the sun" with the naked eye.

The event should be viewed with special viewer glass used for solar eclipse, the planetarium scientists said in New Delhi.
