The 61st birth anniversary of slain Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam leader Velupillai Prabhakaran was celebrated by Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam chief Vaiko and pro-Tamil outfits in some parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday.
Pro-Tamil outfits like Periyar Dravida Iyakkam and 'May 17 movement' celebrated the birth anniversary in various parts of the city by cutting cakes and distributing sweets.
Vaiko cut a cake coinciding with the birth anniversary celebrations at the party headquarters here, sources said. Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader Thol Thirumavalavan along with party cadres also celebrated the birth anniversary of the slain leader.
A series of birth anniversary celebrations were held separately by the MDMK and pro-Tamil outfits in Sivaganga district where blood donation camps were conducted.
Prabhakaran was killed in 2009 by the Sri Lankan forces, ending decades of civil war in that country.
