An Indian sailor, who fell off his ship off the Florida coast, survived a 13-hour ordeal in the frigid waters before being rescued by an alert angler.

Gurjit Singh, working on the 480-foot Tatiana L, a freighter from Cyprus, fell off the cargo ship after it left Port Everglades in Florida on Tuesday night.

Singh (28) floated overnight in his life jacket until he was spotted by Mike Genoun and his two-person crew who were angling for dolphin fish. The three pulled Singh out of the water on Wednesday morning -- about 13 hours after the sailor's shipmates reported him missing, the Miami Herald reported.

Singh, who does not speak English, could not explain how he fell overboard. He was later admitted to the North Broward Medical Centre where he was treated for exhaustion and hypothermia.
