A court in Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday summoned actor Sanjay Dutt on April 24 in connection to the case filed against him, for his jadoo ki jhappi and pappi (magical hug and kiss) remark on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, during last year's Lok Sabha polls.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Anirudh Kumar Tewari issued the summons for Dutt's appearance when the charge-sheet filed in the case came up before the court. The sub-inspector of police, who had investigated the FIR lodged in this connection on April 16, 2009 at the Nagar Kotwali against the actor, had filed the charge-sheet before the CJM on March 18, prosecution sources said.

The police officer, who was made the investigating officer, had also gone to Mumbai to meet the actor, but failed to do so. He prepared the charge-sheet on the basis of the newspaper cuttings and statements of local people in February and it was filed in the court in March.

The FIR was lodged against Dutt who, imitating his famous Bollywood character 'Munna bhai', had offered jhappi-pappi to the people of Pratapgarh and Mayawati while campaigning for the Samajwadi Party candidate during an election rally.

The jadoo ki jhappi and pappi comments had infuriated Mayawati.

Dutt had later said he reserved the pappi for the people and would give only a jhappi to 'sister' Mayawati.
