Suspected militants of the banned United Liberation Front of Assam shot dead a youth at Khumuna Bazar under Mosalpur Police Station in Bagsa district on Wednesday night.

Police informed that the ultras opened fire at the youth, identified as Manmad Das, when he was on his way to a friend's house. Police later recovered empty cartridges of an AK 47 assault rifle from the spot.

Meanwhile, a joint team of police and the Army yesterday arrested two ULFA militants at Sitara along India-Bhutan

road in Rangiya under Kamrup district. The arrested militants were identified as Samin Bezboruah alias Akash Baruah and Madhab Das alias Gurung.

The ULFA ultras entered into a trap laid by the police and the Army while they were traveling from Tamulpur in Bagsa district to Rangiya. Police alleged that both the ultras were members of the 709 battalion of the ULFA and involved in extortion drive of the outfit in North Kamrup area.
