Indian Army killed two hardcore cadres of the banned United Liberation Front of Asom following a brief encounter at Kailashpur Simaluguri village under Pengeri police station of Tinsukia district in eastern Assam late Wednesday night.

A security source informed that the slain militants were identified as Palash Rajbongshi and Bhaskar Baruah, two corporals of 28 Battalion of the ULFA. The ultras were involved in ULFA operations in Pengeri and surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, police in all the 26 districts in Assam have been kept on high alert in view of the martyrs' day observed by the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) on July 27 next.

District police have been alerted on the basis of intelligence inputs that the banned ULFA would try to carry out subversions in different parts of the state in the run up to the outfit's martyrs' day.

The banned  ULFA is into the habit of triggering bomb  blasts  in different parts of the state in and around the martyrs' day and continue it till the 'Indian Independence

Day' keeping the cops on toes.

Three companies of Border Security Force have been deployed in all entry and exit points to and from Guwahati city as part of the mounted vigil against the ULFA that has been triggering frequent blasts here of late.

The BSF personnel have been entrusted to carry out routine patrolling in river routes connecting the city to check possible attempts by the banned ULFA ultras to sneak into the city.

The police have asked all the landlords and house owners in the capital city to submit detail information about their tenants in the nearest police station for verification.

Militants belonging to the ULFA and many other outfits from in other Northeastern states particularly Manipur find the densely populated city a safe place to take shelter.

In view of the growing threat from the banned ULFA Assam government has decided to provide bullet-proof cars to five of its cabinet ministers. As on date only the chief minister Tarun Gogoi has been provided with bullet proof cars.
