Two more persons were held on Friday by Crime Branch of Mumbai police in connection with the August 11 violence, taking the total number of arrests to 50.
Tabrez Mohammed Sayyed, 24 and Wasim Noor Khan, 23, residents of Antop Hill and Govandi areas, respectively, were nabbed based on the video footages showing them indulging in the mayhem at Azad Maidan on August 11, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Himanshu Roy said.
According to police, among other acts of rampage, Sayyed was also involved in torching Marathi news channel ABP Majha's OB van while Khan assaulted a cop on duty with a footwear.
The duo were produced before a local court which remanded them in police custody till August 30. The court also extended by six days the police custody of Salim Allarakha
Choukiya who was arrested earlier for his alleged involvement in the violence.
Tabrez's mobile contained recordings of some speeches during the protest rally, police said, adding they suspect that he gathered people from Antop Hill area and brought them to Azad Maidan to participate in the violence.
Police also informed that a squad, headed by two female officers, has been formed to record statements of women constables who were molested during the scuffle.
With credible inputs, the investigators have zeroed in on Mumbra and Govandi areas to trace 100 bullets, a service pistol of a police inspector that were snatched by mob during the riots.
Among two SLRs, 150 rounds of ammunition and the service pistol of a police inspector that were looted, police later recovered the SLRs from the spot while 29 rounds of ammunition from Mumbra.
According to sources, there recently was an incident in which a Parsi boy travelling on a suburban train was hit by a bullet after it was thrown towards the train, resulting in damage to his tooth at Govandi.
