Two civilians including a girl were wounded in an ongoing gunfight between militants holed up in a house and security forces in south Kashmir Pulwama district.

A senior police officer said troops of counter insurgency, Rashtriya Rifles and police surrounded a house in the Dogripora village near the highway town of Awantipore this evening on specific information

about presence of two militants inside it.

“As the security forces were laying a cordon around the house, holed up militants opened heavy fire at them triggering an encounter which is still on,” the officer said.

He said a 20-year old youth and a girl injured during the encounter have been evacuated to hospital for treatment.

“Reinforcements have been rushed to the area,” the officer added.
