Students in Allahabad on Friday set afire two bogies of a stationery train and pelted another with stones as violence rocked the city for the second day on account of the resentment over the recent modifications in selection of primary level teachers.
A number of B Ed degree holders, eligible for recruitment as primary school teachers, stormed the Prayagghat railway station on Friday afternoon, shouting slogans against the state government's decision to prepare district-wise merit lists, and set afire the Lucknow-Raebareli-Prayagghat passenger train shortly after it terminated at the station, GRP sources said.
Two bogies of the train were gutted in the fire, which was brought under control by fire brigade personnel soon after, the sources said adding, no passenger was injured in the blaze as the incident took place a little after the completion of the train's journey and by that time all the people aboard had alighted.
Two persons have been arrested in connection with the incident, the police said.
Friday's violence comes a day after B Ed students had vandalised a number of public vehicles and indulged in heavy stone-pelting with police, following which nine persons were arrested and booked for causing anarchy at public place.
