At least ten passengers were "feared killed" and around 50 injured when a passenger train derailed on Konkan Railway route in Raigad district on Sunday.

The incident occurred just outside a tunnel near Nidi village, when the engine of Diwa-Sawantwadi passenger train and four bogies derailed at around 10 am between Nagothane and Roha railway stations.

According to the Raigad police, at least 10 passengers were "feared dead" and 50 injured.

The exact number of casualties was not known as it was a remote area and rescue operations were still on, they said.
