Top militants of the Hizbul Mujahideen outfit, one of them an accused in the Delhi high court bomb blast, were killed and another arrested in a fierce encounter in the Kishtwar district of Jammu region on Monday.

The two slain militants have been identified as Amir Ali Kamal alias Amir -- the Delhi high court blast accused -- and Mohammad Shafi Hajam.

The arrested militant has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Mir alias Rizwan, who the police said had managed to escape from the site of encounter, but was chased by the operation party and arrested.

"Credible information was generated by the police regarding the presence of some terrorists in Wasan Nallah near village Lidri under the jurisdiction of the Dachhan police station. A joint operation of the police and the army was launched in the area on Sunday. On Monday morning, contact was established with the militants hiding in the area," a statement issued by the state police said.

"During the encounter, the militants hiding in the area were asked to surrender, but they refused to surrender and opened fire on the operation party. The operation party returned the fire and in the encounter two militants were killed," it said.

"One AK-47 Rifle, 03 AK magazine and one pistol were recovered from the possession of slain terrorists," the statement said.

"The terrorists were involved in several militancy related incidents," the statement said. The slain terrorist Amir Ali Kamal had joined HM outfit in 2008. He was also wanted in Delhi High Court bomb blast.
