TN told to pay salaries to sacked workers

May 06, 2005 14:27 IST

The Supreme Court on Friday directed the Tamil Nadu government to pay three months' wages to nearly 10,000 road construction workers who have been sacked pursuant to the government's policy to give the maintenance work of state highways to private contractors.

The court, however, said that in the meantime there will be no reinstatement of the workers.

The court also directed the state government not to deduct any outstanding loan amounts from the three months' wages to be paid within six weeks.
