In an incident akin to the recent Santiniketan case, a 14-year-old school student was allegedly forced to drink his urine by three teachers who were arrested on Saturday on the charge of beating him up.
A departmental probe held after the teachers were suspended following the allegation by the boy's parents found that the student was not forced to drink urine, police said.
A case was, however, registered against the teachers for beating up the boy, they said, as the alleged incident sparked a public outcry after the parents filed a complaint to the school authorities.
According to the complaint, the boy was made to drink urine after he repeatedly sought permission to go to the toilet soon after the class began, irking the three teachers monitoring the students sitting under a tree.
The boy was allegedly asked to urinate under the tree and drink it before being beaten up, the complaint filed by his parents, Desinkurajan and Poongodi, said.
Disturbed, the boy fled to his native village Sholanmalai near Kumbakonam where he has been admitted to a government hospital, the parents said.
Education department officials visited the school after the incident which reportedly happened yesterday at the Agaram Seekur Sirumalar High School whose management denied the allegation that the student was forced to drink his own urine.
The teachers were suspended pending a departmental inquiry.
School Correspondent (administrator), Muthamizh Selvan, alleged the student had brought with him a drug mixed tobacco substance to the school. The teachers, who got irritated by the constant munching of the stuff, had only warned him and never asked him to drink urine, Selvan claimed.
