Senior lawyer and Team Anna member Prashant Bhushan was attacked by three youths on Wednesday at around 4.15 pm when he was getting ready for an interview with a TV channel. Bhushan is fighting scores of cases against the United Progressive Alliance, and also the petitioner of the case related to 2G scam.
Bhushan's assistant, Pranav Sachdeva, who was present when three youngsters attacked saved Bhushan and took on the attackers. He is the key witness to the shocking attack.
He spoke to rediff.com giving an eye-witness account.
"At around 4.15 pm, in our chamber (number 301), Prashantji was about to give the interview to a prominent TV channel. Three goondas gate-crashed into our office. We were completely taken by surprise. They started hitting Prashantji.
"They said they were upset because of his comments on Kashmir. Some days ago, during the TV interview, Prashantji had made few comments on Kashmir, supporting referendum as he wants one for the Janlokpal bill," he added.
"I was present in our chamber. I thought they will hit me, too. I tried to save him and also called for help. Some of our offices colleagues were standing in the corridor outside our office. They came in and overpowered these guys,"he said.
"The accused, Rajinder Pal Singh, Arun Kumar and Vishnu Gupta, who belong to Bhagat Singh Kranti Sena had come prepared with pamphlets, which we have given to the cops," he added.
"Two of them are absconding but Singh has been arrested. I am sure police will soon arrest other two criminals. I think they have done this violent act to get publicity. They want to be seen that they are fighting some cause. I don't think they are motivated by some political parties or people. They are kind of goons. They did it to show off that they are fighting for cause."
