Two powerful grenade blasts rocked north Kashmir's Sopore town late Thursday afternoon. Mukhtar Ahmad/Rediff.com reports from Srinagar.

A senior police officer on Thursday had a narrow escape as a grenade hurled at his vehicle by militants missed the target in Sopore area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district.

"At about 5 pm, militants hurled a grenade towards the bulletproof bunker vehicle of SDPO, Sopore Ashish Mishra near the railway bridge at Tarzoo in Sopore," a police official said.

He said the grenade missed the target and exploded on the roadside without causing any damage.
