Telangana crisis: KCR, Vijayshanthi resign as MPs

The Telangana movement gathered further steam as Telangana Rashtra Samiti President K Chandrasekhar Rao and party MP and actress Vijayshanti too resigning from Lok Sabha in support of the demand for a separate state. The two faxed their resignation letters to the Speaker on Tuesday morning.

Two Lok Sabha members of main opposition Telugu Desam party Ramesh Rathore and Nama Nageshwara Rao were also slated to tender their resignations to the Speaker Meira Kumar in New Delhi on Tuesday. With this the total number of resignations by the Lok Sabha members will go up to 13. Nine Lok Sabha members and one Rajya Sabha member of ruling Congress party had quit on Monday.

The number of members of Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly who resigned stands at 82 as one more minister P Shankar Rao has also put in his papers. He faxed his resignation letter from the United States.

In all 40 MLAs of Congress, 37 of Telugu Desam, two of Praja Rajyam Party and three independent members (all from Telangana) have resigned demanding carving out of Telangana state.

The resigned Congress MLAs include 12 ministers. With this only three ministers from Telangana region continue to hold on. They include Deputy Chief Minister D Rajanarasimha and two ministers from Hyderabad D Nagendar and Mukesh Goud.
