Indian in monitoring team for Tanzania polls

India's Deputy Election Commissioner Rengaraju Balakrishnan will form part of the 11-member Commonwealth Observer Group monitoring elections in Tanzania on October 30.

Former Malta president and Chairman of the Commonwealth Foundation, Guido de Marco, will head the group.

It also includes Roger Creedon, former chief executive, Election Commission, UK and Audrey McLaughlin, former Federal MP and Leader of the New Democratic Party, Canada. Justice Majida Razvi, former judge of Sindh High Court, Pakistan; Onome Osifo Whiskey, managing editor, Tell Publications, Nigeria and Simone de Comarmond, former minister, Seychelles are also part of the group.

The remaining members comprise Dolres Balderamos Garcia, MP, Belize; Khabele Matlosa, Senior Adviser, Research, Electoral Institute of South Africa; Christiana Ayola Mary Thorpe, Chair, National Electoral Commission, Sierra Leone and Daryl Wight, Federal Electoral Officer Victoria, Australia.

The group will be supported by an eight-member team from the Commonwealth Secretariat led by Ade Adefuye, Head of the Africa Section, Political Affairs Division.
