Angry over high cut-off list of DelhiUniversity for its undergraduate courses, a group of students under the banner of Krantikari Yuva Sangathan on Tuesday staged protest at the Art Faculty of North Campus.

Protestors raised slogans -- "cut-off ghatao (decrease), seat badhao (increase)" and burnt the first cut-off list released by colleges of the DelhiUniversity. The DelhiUniversity has announced a high cut-off list after midnight on Monday night for admission to undergraduate courses under three-year format with three rank outsider colleges setting the maximum bar of 100 per cent for BSc (Honours) Computer Science course.

Acharya Narendra Dev, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma and ShyamaPrasadMukherjeeCollege have posed a stiff competition with its 100 per cent cut-off for the computer science honours course for students who have studied Arts in Class XII.

"Around 2.7 Lakh students have applied for admissions in DU this year but only 54,000 seats are available. The students who are economically weak don't get admission in the prestigious colleges given that most of them do their schooling from a government school. Such candidates then have no choice other than turning to SOL", said Subhash Jha, member of KYU.

Meanwhile, the members of Open Students' Organisation on Tuesday also staged a protest at the Art Faculty, raising demands such as offline admissions for all courses, provision of study material in hard copy other than CDs and speedy result declaration.

"Hundreds of students come to SOL to get admission but the forms are available only at 24 centres of one bank. There should be at least one centre at the SOL campus where students can fill up forms", demanded Omkar Singh, an OSO member.
