Students of a government school on Wednesday were found dusting and cleaning classrooms during a surprise inspection by the Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Priya Sethi who ordered action against the headmaster.

Taking a strong note of the incident, the minister asked the director school education in Jammu to initiate disciplinary action against the headmaster, officials said.

She said such inhuman practices won’t be tolerated as it not only mar the future of the students but also defame this noble profession.

Sethi took a round of various sections of the schools, to ascertain the status of services being available. She enquired about the student-teacher ratio, quality of education and learning outcome.

Expressing concern over inadequate infrastructure in some schools, the minister asked the director school education to take necessary steps for development of fundamental infrastructure which is primary requirement for quality education.

She also asked him to ensure that the teachers are posted in schools as per student strength.

She assured the teachers that they will be provided adequate facilities so that they can discharge their duties in a hassle-free manner.

“The government would explore all possibilities to equip all pre-primary schools with requisite infrastructure,” she maintained.
