A jailed policeman Monday filed a private suit in a special court alleging that four senior Special Investigation Team officers had destroyed a chargesheet he had filed in the multicrore fake stamp paper case. He said the officers were trying to help get prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi cleared of the murder of Telgi's driver, Christopher.

Telgi has been charged with killing the driver, who reportedly knew many details about the scam.

Suspended Assistant Police Inspector Dilip Kamath, currently remanded to judicial custody for allegedly helping the Telgi syndicate, filed the complaint through his lawyer.

Kamath alleged that four top SIT officials -- S S Puri, Subodh Jaiswal, A K Agarwal and C H Wakhade -- were responsible for destroying the chargesheet.

Designated judge A P Bhangale, who is hearing the complaint, ordered Commissioner of Police A N Roy and state Director General of Police S M Shengari to appoint a senior officer to probe the matter and file a report on August 31.
