Militants lobbed a powerful hand grenade at a police station in the old city Khanyar area of Srinagar on Thursday evening. A senior police officer said that the grenade exploded near the main entrance to the police station without causing any damage.

Cops guarding the police station fired

several rounds in air following the explosion, which triggered panic in the area. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blast.

Srinagar has been peaceful without any major incident in the past month during which Kashmir Valley was lashed with heavy snow and one of its most bitter winters this year.
