The Sri Lankan government on Friday presented in its parliament the much awaited report of the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission.

Senior minister and leader of the House, Nimal Siripala de Silva presented it, parliamentary officials said.

The LLRC was appointed by President Rajapaksa in May 2010 to look back at the island's ethnic separatist conflict during the period February 2002 and May 2009.

Sri Lanka has often cited the LLRC as its own mechanism when faced by international calls to establish an independent investigation into alleged war crimes for which a UN special panel had held both the government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam responsible.

The LLRC report was submitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa on November 20.

Since then the international community has pressed for its early release in public.

The contents of the report are awaited.
