Party president Sonia Gandhi on Friday opened the Congress's election campaign in Haryana with a rally in Naultha village in Panipat district.
She attacked the Chauthala government for its 'overall failure' and promised good governance if her party was voted to power.
"If any government starts giving protection to criminals then it is bound to result in deterioration of law and order in the state," said Sonia.
She alleged that 'government officials were forced to do wrong things and if anyone refused s/he was discriminated against and harassed'.
At Naultha, Congress candidate and former minister Prasanni Devi is up against five candidates, but her main rival is Ramrati Jaglial of the ruling Indian National Lok Dal.
Prassani Devi and Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee president Bhajan Lal also addressed the rally.
Senior Congress leader Motilal Vohra, former HPCC president Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Union Minister of State Kumari Shelja also attended the rally.
