Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday wrapped up a two-day visit to her Lok Sabha constituency by meeting people's representatives who highlighted various problems of the area and sought her help in resolving them.

Local members of Legislative Assembly belonging to Samajwadi Party -- Ram Lal Akela and Devendra Pratap Singh - apprised their member of Parliament of problems of drainage, canal and power supply which were causing immense hardships.

District Magistrate Srinivasan Lo proposed several schemes such as electric crematorium, old-age home, children's park in the Indira Gandhi Udyan besides free coaching facility  for the Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service exam, sources said, adding that she was also told that 100 days' job under the MNREGA were not enough.

The district magistrate also informed Sonia about problems faced by the locals in

getting bank loans and sought her help in this regard, to which she asked her representatives present in the meeting to take note of the issues raised.

On the power problem, the Congress chief asked the MLAs to do whatever was required from their side while saying that she would also make efforts in this regard. Congress legislators Dinesh Pratap Singh and Dr Muslim were also present.

Sources said Sonia was not satisfied with lesser participation of women in MNREGA.    Earlier, she met delegations from ITI, National Thermal Power Corporation, Uttar Pradesh State spinning mills and Nandganj Sehori Sugar Mill and representatives of primary teachers' association besides a number of local residents who submitted memorandums regarding their problems.

This was Sonia's first visit to her Lok Sabha constituency after the Congress party's humiliating defeat in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections earlier this year.
