PHOTOS: It hasn't rained but Mumbai's already flooded

A high tide rocked Mumbai city on Thursday afternoon that lead to flooding of many residential areas and roads in the maximum city.

Coastal roads stretching from Mahim and Dadar upto Worli were flooded with water after a burgeoning high tide choked the drainage system. Roads were littered with plastic and garbage thrown back by the sea.

According to the India Meteorological Department, the high tide at 4.56 metre hit the shore at 11.30 am and as per the forecast there would be a bigger high tide on Friday measuring close to 4.79 metre.

About 100 cars were stuck in the water owing to the high tide, causing major traffic snarls in the areas.

However, Mumbaikars will have to wait for monsoon rains for some days -- it should have reached on June 10. It has reached Ratnagiri and will take a couple of more days to travel to Mumbai.

According to some media reports, the water also reportedly made its way into the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena leader Raj Thakeray’s house.

The authorities swung into action to clear the water. Officials of Mumbai Traffic police, Brihanmumbai Mumbai Corporation were working to ensure that the all the drains in the area are clear of any clogs so that the water can flow out of the roads.
