The Special Investigating Team probing the 2004 encounter of Mumbai teenager Ishrat Jahan and three others has seized some computer hard disks and documents related to the case after raiding the Forensic Science Laboratory in Ahmedabad.

The raid on FSL at Meghaninagar was conducted on the night of March 3, sources in SIT said on Tuesday.

The SIT officials seized some computer hard disk drives and documents related to the Ishrat case and are analysing them, they said.

Based on analysis, some FSL officers are likely to be questioned in the coming days as to why these things were not handed over to the Gujarat high court-appointed probe agency along with other evidence and documents, the sources said.

The seizure assumes significance as SIT member Satish Verma, in an affidavit filed in the high court last month, had questioned genuineness of the encounter.

Verma had said there were illustrative evidences that suggest the allegation of the encounter being fake was well founded.

He had enumerated various scientific evidence that go against the version of the FIR filed by the city crime branch.

Ishrat, 19, a Mumbai college student, along with Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.

The crime branch had then claimed the four were member of the banned Lashkar-e-Tayiba and were on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
