Noting that Indians still find sex a behind the doors topic, a new survey shows that one out of two men in the country do not have optimal erection hardness and over 60 per cent of women feel their partner's erections are inadequate.

According to the 'Asia Pacific Sexual Health and Overall Wellbeing study', two-thirds of men over 40 are unhappy with their erections.

The study revealed that in India, discussions about sexual experience is still a major concern among couples. Sex ranks seventh out of the 17 life priorities for men, while for women it ranks near the bottom 14.

Family life is clearly the most important aspect of life for both men and women. Other life priorities include being a spouse, work or career, being a parent, financial well being and physical health.

The same priorities appear on top of the women's list.

The survey revealed that sexual satisfaction is strongly associated with satisfaction in overall physical health, love and romance.

"In India, the survey showed that adults who are less than satisfied with sex are less likely to be satisfied with life overall," said Rupin Shah, andrologist at Mumbai's Lilawati hospital.

There is also a clear link between satisfaction with erection hardness and satisfaction with sex for people in India.

The sample size for the survey was 400 which concentrated mostly in urban areas.

Shah said, "Though the survey results can be said to be very urban, as a clinical physician I can say that the results would have been almost the same for rural parts of the country as well."

The results for India are not much different from Asia pacific countries where 54 per cent of men and 64 per cent of women are not very satisfied with sex.

Sixty seven to eighty seven per cent of men and women who are more than satisfied with sex said they were happy with life overall.

Only 10 to 26 per cent of men and women who are less satisfied with sex are satisfied with life overall, the survey showed.

Another interesting finding is that men consider sex to be one of the most important life priorities, while women tend to place it further down in the list.

For men and women who are more than satisfied with erection hardness, 31 to 71 per cent of them are satisfied with sex, love, romance, family life and being a spouse or a partner.
