The All Assam Students' Union on Tuesday organised demonstrations across Assam demanding steps to evict fundamentalist forces from the state.

The Director General of Assam Police, Khagen Sharma said that several youth from the state had undergone training at Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh camps in Bangladesh.

“We put many persons with JMB links under surveillance but could not arrest them as we had no concrete evidence. The recent arrests made in Assam are based on evidence gathered by the police,” the DGP said.

Sharma said that more people were under surveillance on suspicion of working for fundamentalist outfits.
