Security has been increased in and around the ancient Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati in view of the Al-Qaeda threatening to spread its network to Assam.
Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, who also holds the home portfolio, reviewed the security arrangement in and around Kamakhya Temple, which is visited by hundreds of pilgrims every day.
The Assam Police in coordination with the Kamakhya Temple management committee have geared up security measures. 30 close circuit cameras have been installed in and around the temple premises in addition to 25 such cameras that had already been installed in the area.
Door frame metal detectors have been installed at all the four main entrances to the temple while arrangements have been made for night patrolling by a seven-member patrol party of city police.
Police informed that the Kamakhay Temple management committee has also engaged 30 private security guards to monitor the movement of visitors to the temple. These private security guards will be working in coordination with the Assam police guards.
