The Aam Aadmi Party on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to topple the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government, claiming that the opposition party was attempting to lure its Members of Legislative Assembly to switch sides.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh alleged at a press conference that a number of senior BJP leaders, along with some media persons, were backing efforts to bring down the government.
Madan Lal, AAP MLA from Kasturba Nagar, claimed that two people who have links with a senior BJP leader had met him nearly 10-12 days ago and offered Rs 20 crore to split the AAP.
"They said if you get nine people, you can break away and form a new party and come to power. We will make you the chief minister. The BJP will give you all help," Lal said, but didn’t produce any proof to substantiate his allegations.
Lal said that on December 8, an unidentified person had telephoned him, saying a prominent leader wanted to talk to him.
"When I asked him who wanted to talk to me, he said Arun Jaitley. After hearing Jaitley's name, I cut the phone. I could not make a call back on the unknown number," he said.
However, Jaitley rubbished the allegations.
"Rubbish claims by AAP. AAP's alternative politics includes a fundamental right to falsehood and lies," he said.
Asked why he didn't record the offer by that person as the Kejriwal government was trying to teach the common man of Delhi how to conduct sting operations of officials seeking bribe, the MLA said he didn't have such a device.
"Besides, I didn't want to record the conversation against the BJP as this is just my allegation and I don't want to get involved in legal cases," he said.
Singh alleged that both the BJP and the Congress wanted to create a situation in which the AAP government would fall. He alleged that both these parties were hand-in-glove with electricity distribution companies.
"During the tenure of the last government, the National Thermal Power Corporation never told the BSES Rajdhani that if it didn't pay dues, it would stop the supply of power," Singh said.
He said the AAP would on Tuesday launch a pol khol campaign against the BJP and the Congress.
"In pol khol campaign, we will bring out the truth about the BJP and the Congress before Delhiities. Besides, we would also tell residents about the work the AAP-led government has done in the last one month," he said.
