Satyanarayana named new Andhra Congress chief

Seeking to put its house in order in Andhra Pradesh, the Congress on Monday appointed senior state minister Botsa Satyanarayana as Pradesh Congress Committee president.

Botsa is a member of influential Kapu community to which filmstar Chiranjeevi, who merged his Praja Rajyam Party with the Congress, also belongs.

Another senior minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, also belonging to the same community, was also in the running for the post of PCC chief. Satyanarayana replaces D Srinivas as PCC chief in a state where is the party is undergoing a churning following a crushing defeat in the Kadapa Lok Sabha by-polls against rebel Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Congress nominee and state Health minister D L Ravindra lost his deposit. N  Kirankumar Reddy was made the chief minister sometime back in the state replacing K Rosaiah.
