The Centre would soon come out with a legislation to firmly deal with communal riots, Congress leader Salman Khurshid said in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Such an act was being contemplated looking at the situation in Gujarat, Khurshid, the Congress chief in Uttar Pradesh, told reporters during his brief visit to the city.
The Congress had already consulted its partners in the United Progressive Alliance government on the issue, Khurshid said.
The Congress, he said, was firm on its decision to provide reservation to minorities in party-ruled states in the country, Khurshid said, adding that a committee under the chairmanship of Rajendra Sachar has been set up by the party to look into the issue.
Khurshid said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be roped in by the party to deal with national issues instead of asking him to concentrate on Uttar Pradesh affairs alone, Khurshid said.
The Congress leader was also critical of Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh saying it had not done anything concrete during his rule.
