The bail application filed by key accused in the Malegaon 2008 blast Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur on medical ground was on Thursday rejected by the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act court on Thursday.

"Sadhvi had filed for bail on the ground that she needs to be operated for her lumber spondylitis but it got rejected," one of her lawyers Rameshwar Gite said.

"The court rejected the bail after observing that the Sadhvi can undergo the operation even when she is in custody," said another of her lawyer Ganesh Sovani.

Sadhvi Pragya Singh had applied for bail many times in the past as well but without success. Twelve persons including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit were arrested for carrying out the blast at Malegaon on September 29, 2008 that killed six persons and injured 100 others.

The accused have been booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, besides the Indian Penal Code.

The trial is yet to commence as some of the accused have challenged the invocation of MCOCA in the case before the Supreme Court, which is pending.
