The six accused in the Prof H S Sabharwal murder case, who were acquitted by a local court, have been released from the Central Prison in Nagpur.

They were released on Monday night. The six activists of Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad -- Vimal Tomar, Pankaj Mishra, Vimal Rajoria, Shashiranjan Akela, Hemant Dubey and Sudhir Yadav -- were facing murder charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

They were accused of allegedly beating to death political science lecturer Prof Sabharwal on Aug 26, 2006 in Madhav College.

The trials were conducted in Ujjain and later shifted to a special court in Nagpur as per a Supreme Court direction.

The case was transferred to Maharashtra on a petition filed by son of the late professor -- Himanshu.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Nitin Dalvi acquitted the six accused of the charges. Accordingly after completion of formalities, the authorities released them.
