Highest SA award for Nehru

Jawaharlal Nehru and President Sukarno of Indonesia have been posthumously conferred with South Africa's highest award for foreigners.

President Thabo Mbeki conferred the awards as a special recognition of the two leaders' pioneering work in Afro-Asian solidarity.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has been invited to Pretoria to accept the 'Order of the Companion of O R Tambo' (gold), is deputing her son Rahul to receive it on April 26,

an External Affairs Ministry release said on Saturday.

Megawati Sukarnoputri, daughter of the late Indonesian President will receive the award on Sukarno's behalf.
