The Rajya Sabha was adjourned briefly on Wednesday after members disrupted proceedings over a reply by Home Minister Shivraj Patil on terrorism emanating from Bangladesh.

After Patil replied to supplementaries on investigations into the recent Hyderabad twin blasts, Vinay Katiyar (Bharatiya Janata Party) and Shahid Siddiqui (Samajwadi Party) continued to raise points about the Centre's role in dealing with terror from across the border.

The home minister had said the investigation into the Hyderabad blasts, which was primarily the responsibility of the state government, was still on.

Chairman Hamid Ansari repeatedly asked members to take their seats and let the next listed question be taken up.

But, they were unrelenting. He first ruled that nothing would go on record and then threatened to name members disrupting the proceedings.

"Attempts to disrupt proceedings of the House will involve Rule 255. I will name the member if he doesn't settle down," the chairman said.

With his pleas going unheeded, he adjourned the House for five minutes.
