Rizwanur case transferred to fast track court

The case relating to the unnatural death of computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rehman, who had married the daughter of a industrialist in 2007, was on Wednesday transferred to a fast track court for trial.

Chief judge city sessions court Murari Mohan Ghosh ordered the seven accused in the case, including Rizwanur's father-in-law Ashok Todi to appear before the additional district judges court (9th bench) on May 29.

Besides Ashok Todi, his brother, Pradip Todi, brother-in-law Anil Sarogi, the Rehman family's friend Moinuddin alias Pappu and three Kolkata police officers, Ajoy Kumar, Sukanti Chakraborty and Krishnendu Das were present in court.

A petition was filed on behalf of Ashok Todi and Pradip Todi that as per the order of the Supreme Court that their passports had been deposited with the relevant authority.

All the accused were charged with criminal conspiracy in the death of Rizwanur whose body was found beside the rail tracks on September 21, 2007, a month after his marriage to Priyanka, Ashok Todi's daughter.

The couple had allegedly been summoned to the Lalbazar police headquarters thrice earlier and subjected to threats and intimidation so that Rizwanur was forced to allow his wife to go back to her father's residence.

The case was committed to sessions trial by CBI-designated court of Madhumita Roy on December 17 last year.
