The graphic (above) shows how passenger traffic at Indian airports has grown over the years.

While the number of international passengers has been growing steadily, the domestic passengers number has shown sharp rises with some sharp drops as well.

The data, sourced from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, outlines how the rise of low cost airlines has created an air travel boom among Indian travellers.

But it also hints at how this segment is vulnerable to volatility in economic factors.
