Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary Gopinath Munde on Thursday said rebellion in the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party alliance might work in favour of the saffron combine.

"In 2004 elections, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance had got just eight seats less than the Congress-NCP combine. However, then the Congress-NCP did not have any rebel candidates contesting against their official candidates," he told media persons.

This time, 120 rebels from the NCP-Congress parties are contesting against the official candidates. Also, the Republican Party of India too is not with the Congress. Hence, we will get clear majority in the assembly elections," Munde said.

Dissident Dr Madhukar Kinhalkar contesting against Chief Minister Ashok Chavan will help the saffron alliance, he said.

The BJP leader was in the city to campaign for party candidates Bhagwat Karad from Aurangabad East and Haribhau Bagade from the Phulambri constituencies.

Munde said the formation of Republican Left Democratic Front has further weakened the Congress and NCP combine.

On Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, he said the Raj Thackeray-led party would not be a deciding factor in the October 13 assembly elections.

Munde also flayed NCP chief and Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar saying the former seems to be concentrating more on local bodies than state polls. Pawar last week had criticised the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation for underutilisation of Rs 350 cr sanctioned by the Centre for city's development.
