"The Congress has failed to develop Assam despite being in power for such a long period and its first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had virtually bade farewell to the people of a part of the state during the 1962 Chinese aggression. How has the party managed to remain in power in the state? The people should really question themselves," said Yoga Guru Bara Ramdev in Guwahati on Thursday afternoon.

Lashing out the incumbent Congress government in Assam for allegedly siphoning off development funds, Ramdev made a reference to 1962 Sino-Indian war to remind the people about Nehru bidding a 'tearful farewell' to the people of a part of Assam that came under occupation of the invading Chinese army.

Talking to the media at the start of his two-day tour of the North-East, Ramdev blamed the Congress for under-development of the region and wondered how the Congress had managed to remain in power in Assam despite its failure to develop the state.

He said, "The amount of funds that Assam and NE has received for developmental works since Independence should have put the region at par with the rest of the country. But where has the money gone?"

Ramdev reiterated his charges of corruption against Congress government both at the state and at the Centre and called upon the people to wake up to it.

Ramdev called on Team Anna member and general secretary of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity, Akhil Gogoi, a renowned Tight to Information activist, at his city residence.

Gogoi has just been discharged from hospital where he had to be admitted following an assault on him allegedly by some 'Congress goons' while he was on a visit to flood-hit areas at Chamota in Nalbari district.
