Curfew was imposed in Asind and Gulabpura towns of the Rajsthan’s Bhilwara district after clashes broke out between two groups in which six policemen were injured, police said.
"Clashes broke out between two groups during a religious procession on Friday following which curfew was imposed in Gulabpura and Asind," District Collector Onkar Singh said.
"Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC was imposed last night but when the situation turned violent, the curfew was clamped," he added.
Six policemen were injured as the groups had resorted to stone-pelting, a police official said.
Few shops belonging to one of the groups were also set ablaze, he said, adding that police have rounded up some persons.
The situation in the towns has been volatile for the last few days after one group objected to a procession to be carried out by the other group.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reviewed the situation at a high level meeting in Jaipur and appealed to people to maintain peace and harmony.
More security personnel have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
