Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi is likely to undertake a day-long trip to Allahabad on August 1 during which he may visit the hospital named after his great grandmother Kamla Nehru, a party spokesperson said on Monday.
"Rahul Gandhi is likely to arrive in the afternoon and drive straight to Kamla Nehru Memorial Hospital, which is one of the leading maternity and child health centres in the country.
"The All India Congress Committee general secretary, who is a member of the hospital's board of trustees, is also likely to take stock of the hospital affairs," Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee spokesman Kishore Varshney said.
According to the hospital's Assistant Director (Admin) Hari Om Singh, Gandhi would be inaugurating a number of state-of-the-art facilities, including a paediatric cancer ward, during his visit.
Gandhi would thereafter leave for G B Pant Social Science Institute, situated in Jhansi, where he is likely to interact with students and faculty members of the institute, Varshney said.
He may also pay a visit to the historic Anand Bhavan, the ancestral house of the Nehru-Gandhi family which has been converted into a museum, the UPCC spokesman added.
"There is a lot of enthusiasm among party workers for the upcoming visit of Gandhi, even though we have been told that his trip is most likely to be non-political in nature," Varshney said.
