Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders L K Advani and Sushma Swaraj should 'pull up' Nitin Gadkari for his anti-Sonia Gandhi remarks, Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh said on Thursday.

Dubbing Gadkari as a 'disciple' of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat, Singh said the BJP chief's statement on Wedensday that Sonia Gandhi's claim of fighting corruption was similar to that of Pakistan's claim with regard to terrorism, was condemnable.

He alleged that Gadkari, who has never contested an election, has amassed wealth to the tune of thousands of crore should not talk on the issue of corruption. He wanted the BJP chief to declare his Income Tax and wealth tax returns.

Singh said Advani and Swaraj needed to 'pull up' (kan pakade) Gadkari.

Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan dubbed Gadkari as the 'puppet of the RSS' who has no caliber to become even a 'small time politician' and therefore was bringing the political discourse to 'gutter level'.

Gadkari has no control over factionalism and disputes in the party where the chief ministers have become 'fascists and little despots' in their own states, and were blackmailing the party chief, she said.

"Gadkari is an RSS puppet. If the RSS withdraws support to him, he will be consigned to the dustbin of history and politics," Natarajan said.

She said that he had earlier used such 'foul' language against leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Lalu Prasad.
