Authorities imposed curfew in north Kashmir Sopore and Baramulla towns and curfew-like-restrictions in the summer capital Srinagar to foil separatist called sit-ins and protests Wednesday.

In the early morning hours, police vehicles with loud speakers warned people to stay indoors as restrictions had been imposed in the capital city.

Police and paramilitary, central reserve police force (CRPF) troopers are patrolling the streets in capital Srinagar enforcing the restrictions and in Baramulla and Sopore towns where curfew continued for the third day running.

Restrictions are also in place in other places in the valley. Police, however, said there were no restrictions in any south Kashmir area today, but adequate security arrangements are in place to maintain law and order.

Shops, businesses, transport, educational institutions, government offices, banks are shut across the Valley today.

The hard-line All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) group, headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, had asked people to stage protests and sit-ins across Kashmir Valley today to press their demand for the release of separatist leaders.

The group had also called for a general shutdown which continued for the fourth day running as part of the groups 'quiet Kashmir programme'.

Protests and incidents of stone pelting were reported from capital city and south Kashmir Pampore town today.
