President Pratibha Patil on Wednesday unfurled a national flag being touted as the tallest in the country at famous holy Brahamsarovar area of Kurukshetra.
Haryana Governor Jagannath Pahadia and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda were also present at the occasion.
This event was organised by the Flag Foundation of India. Mounted on a 207 feet tall pole, the flag is 90 feet in length and 60 feet in width. The unfurling ceremony concluded with singing of the National Anthem.
Significantly, the Foundation has earlier arranged for such ceremonies at nine other places in the country where also the national flag has been mounted on 207 feet high poles.
In Haryana, the national flag mounted on 207 feet tall poles is already flying high at Kaithal, Ladwa, Hisar and Sonipat. Besides this, such flags are at Jaipur, Bengaluru, Angul and Vijaynagar.
The Foundation has also got the flags unfurled on 100 feet tall poles at 19 other places.
While welcoming the President of India on this occasion, the President of Flag Foundation of India and Congress member of Parliament from Kurukshetra, Naveen Jindal said that the purpose of such ceremonies was to make people aware of the importance of the National Flag and to inspire them to respect the flag.
