President Mukherjee cuts short Odisha visit after wife gets hospitalised

President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday night cut short his visit to Odhisa and returned to the capital after his wife Suvra was hospitalised following illness.

Official sources said Suvra, who has been ill for sometime, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in the hospital in Delhi.

Suvra is under observation and her condition is stated to be stable.

Mukherjee, who earlier in the evening had a 'darshan' of Lord Jagannath at Sri Mandir at Puri, returned to Bhubaneswar by road and took the flight to Delhi, top state government officials said.

Mukherjee was scheduled to attend a second convocation function of the NationalLawUniversity in Cuttack and take part in another function in Bhubaneswar.

Mukherjee returned to New Delhi shortly after midnight on Friday.

On landing in New Delhi, the President drove straight to the Army's Research and ReferralHospital in Cantonment area to see his wife.

The President's sister and brother-in-law also returned with him.

The President was on a two-day visit to Odhisa and he was scheduled to attend the convocation of National Law University at Cuttack.

The President performed puja at Puri's Jagannath Temple on Friday morning and later visited Puri beach to see sand sculptures of famous artist Sudarshan Patnaik.
