Power supply in the snow-bound Valley has become almost normal with the state electricity department ensuring working of almost all the 19 power stations including those in far flung Lolab and Tangdhar areas of north Kashmir.

750 MW was made available to the entire valley last night and electricity has been restored in areas like Lolab and Tangdhar, a senior Power Development Department official said on Monday.

Unprecedented snowfall on January 7 had plunged the Kashmir Valley into darkness with power lines getting snapped due to the heavy fall. However, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah personally led the relief mission and stationed himself in the Valley to ensure early restoration of power.

A helicopter of the state government was kept at the disposal of the power department to fly engineers anywhere, the official said. He said electricity was restored everywhere barring some areas in South Kashmir, like higher reaches of Kokernag, which was still experiencing snowfall.
